Frequently Asked Questions

What are your prices? Do you require a deposit?

You can find my prices on my website under the investment tab!

www.jvarnerphoto.com/investment

I do require a 25% non-refundable retainer for photo sessions, events and weddings. It can be transferred (one time) in the case of rescheduling.

How can I book?

You can book by text or email (or by submitting a contact form on my website). I answer all Instagram direct messages, but this is the least reliable form of communication for me! A deposit is required to hold your date, and a signed contract is required to book weddings.

What is your turnaround time?

All photo sessions are guaranteed to be delivered within 2 weeks, however most of the time it’s quicker than that.

You can expect your full wedding package to be delivered within 5 weeks.

Do you offer mini sessions?

Occasionally! They are usually near holidays and posted on my media, but you are always welcome to ask.

How do I recieve my photos? Do you do prints?

I deliver all images on an online, full resolution gallery, and you download them onto your device from there.

I do prints upon request.

I can’t figure out what to wear. Can you help?

Absolutely! Your experience with me starts at booking, and I am here to help with everything along the way. You can start by checking out my “What to Wear Guide” on my blog. Then, if you have any questions or need additional pointers, don’t hesitate to reach out!

I want to do family photos, but first I want to lose 10 lbs (or any other insecurity.)

I totally understand why you might feel that way. We live in a culture that makes us feel like we have to be perfect to be photographed. But honestly, nothing could be further from the truth! I want to help you celebrate whenever you’re at in life. When you’re 99 years old and look back at your photos, you literally will not care or see any of the tiny insecurities. All you willl feel is nostalgia and gratitude that you decided to do the photo session in the first place!

I do minor touch ups at my discretion, but if you REALLY dislike something about yourself physically, and would like it altered, I can accommodate you for an increased fee. We will shoot your session in a way that is most flattering to you, and help you feel as beautiful as you look in front of the camera. Rest assured!

Should I bring props?

This is a loaded question - yes and no! I don’t want to just answer yes, because I’m not a huge fan of the props that you’re probably thinking of… signs, newborn shoes, etc. To me, those things just SCREAM cheesy. We can portray whatever message you’re trying to get across without those things, for sure. But more subtle props are wonderful. Florals are almost always a good idea! Otherwise, think of things that you like to do or that are deeply meaningful to you. Love surfing? Maybe we can do a beach session with your surfboard. Are your pets a part of the family? Bring them! Want to show that this photoshoot is a celebration? Bring a bottle of champagne!

If you have any questions about anything prop-related, please ask me. Id love to incorporate anything meaningful to you into your photos in an artful way.

Can I send you inspo?

Absolutely! I always appreciate being able to see what you’re drawn to as it gives me a better idea on how to serve you specifically. However, straight up copying photos is not my jam, it doesn’t allow any room for creative freedom or personalization. So let’s use it for what it’s meant to be - inspiration! And we’ll create something even better ;)

Do we get all the pictures you take, but only some edited?

Nope, you get all the goodies, but I do not give out raw images under any circumstance! This is my art, and I work hard to make sure what you recieve is quality & consistent. If I feel a photo is “good,” it will be edited and included in your gallery. What is NOT included: blurry images, some repeats, mess ups, etc. I will not hold back on quality images even if we are far over your guaranteed photo count!
